    • 1 cup warm water
    • 2 tbsp sugar
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Add yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a separate large bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well in the center, add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil.
  3. Knead the dough until smooth, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Form dough into baguette shapes and place on a baking sheet.
  5. Let them rise for another 30 minutes, then bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Bánh Bao

Bánh Bao are delightful steamed buns filled with a variety of ingredients. Here’s a simple recipe for a vegetarian option:

  • Ingredients:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
    • 1 cup warm water
    • 2 tbsp sugar
    • ½ tsp salt
    • 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, and mushrooms)
    • 1 tbsp soy sauce

Instructions:

  1. Mix warm water and sugar, add yeast, and let it activate for 10 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture gradually and knead until smooth.
  3. In a pan, stir-fry mixed vegetables with soy sauce for the filling.
  4. Divide dough into small balls, flatten them, and place veggie mixture in the center. Seal the buns.
  5. Steam the buns for 15-20 minutes until fluffy and cooked through.

Bánh Flan

Bánh Flan, a popular Vietnamese dessert, is a creamy caramel custard that's irresistibly delicious. Here’s how to make it:

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
    • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, melt sugar over medium heat until it turns into a golden caramel. Quickly pour the caramel into molds, coating the bottom.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Pour the milk mixture over the caramel in the molds.
  4. Place molds in a larger baking dish filled with water (water bath) and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 50 minutes.
