How to Make Vietnamese Avocado and Tofu Salad

Vietnamese avocado and tofu salad is a refreshing and nutritious dish that beautifully combines creamy textures and vibrant flavors. Perfect as a light meal or a side dish, this salad is vegan, packed with nutrients, and easy to prepare. Below is a simple recipe to create a delicious Vietnamese avocado and tofu salad.

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 cup of mixed salad greens (lettuce, arugula, or spinach)
  • 1 small cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, shredded
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons of lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chili flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Tofu

Start by draining the tofu and pressing it to remove excess moisture. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and place a weight on top for about 15-20 minutes. Once pressed, cut the tofu into cubes.

Step 2: Cook the Tofu

In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, add a splash of sesame oil. Once hot, add the cubed tofu and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Step 3: Prepare the Vegetables

While the tofu is cooling, slice the avocados, cucumber, and shred the carrot. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mixed salad greens, cucumber, carrot, and cilantro.

Step 4: Mix the Dressing

In a small bowl, whisk together the lime juice, soy sauce, remaining sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Add chili flakes if you prefer a bit of heat.

Step 5: Combine the Salad

Add the cooled tofu and avocado to the bowl with the vegetables. Drizzle the dressing over the top and gently toss to combine, making sure not to mash the avocados.

Step 6: Serve

Transfer the salad to a serving platter or individual bowls. Garnish with additional cilantro or sesame seeds if desired. Enjoy your Vietnamese avocado and tofu salad fresh for the best flavor.

Tips for the Perfect Salad

  • Choose ripe avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure for the best taste and texture.
  • For added flavor, marinate the tofu for an hour before frying with soy sauce and garlic.
  • You can add other vegetables like bell peppers or bean sprouts for extra crunch.

This Vietnamese avocado and tofu salad is not only quick and easy to make, but it is also a versatile dish that you can enjoy any time of the year. Not only does it offer a burst of flavors, but it also provides a healthy balance of protein, healthy fats, and fresh produce. Enjoy this delightful recipe as part of a vibrant meal that celebrates the flavors of Vietnamese cuisine.
