How to Make Vietnamese Tofu Stir-Fried with Vegetables

Tofu stir-fried with vegetables is a popular Vietnamese dish that is not only delicious but also packed with nutrients. This simple recipe allows you to enjoy the fresh flavors of vegetables combined with the rich taste of tofu. Follow these steps to create your own Vietnamese tofu stir-fry at home.

Ingredients

To prepare Vietnamese tofu stir-fried with vegetables, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 block of firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 2-3 cups of mixed vegetables (bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, snap peas)
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce (optional for a vegetarian version)
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro or green onions for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Tofu

Start by draining the tofu and pressing it to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a heavy object on top for about 15-20 minutes. Once drained, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.

Step 2: Cook the Tofu

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu cubes. Cook the tofu for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove the tofu from the pan and set aside.

Step 3: Stir-Fry the Vegetables

In the same pan, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the mixed vegetables and stir-fry for 5-7 minutes. The vegetables should be tender but still slightly crisp.

Step 4: Combine and Season

Return the cooked tofu to the pan with the vegetables. Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and sesame oil. Stir everything together gently to ensure that the tofu and vegetables are well-coated with the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5: Serve

Once everything is mixed and heated through, remove the pan from the stove. Transfer the stir-fry to a serving dish and garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions. Serve your Vietnamese tofu stir-fried with vegetables over steamed jasmine rice or rice noodles for a complete meal.

Tips for a Perfect Stir-Fry

For the best flavor and texture, consider the following tips:

  • Choose fresh vegetables to enhance the dish's taste and nutrition.
  • Feel free to customize the vegetables based on what you have on hand or your preferences.
  • For added heat, consider adding sliced chili peppers or a dash of chili sauce.
  • Ensure that your pan is hot enough before adding the ingredients to achieve a good stir-fry.

Enjoy your homemade Vietnamese tofu stir-fried with vegetables as a healthy and satisfying dish. This recipe is perfect for lunch or dinner and is sure to impress family and friends!
